686 The Process

Go behind the scenes with 686

0

Steamboat Guides’ sponsor 686 just released a new video titled “The Process,” which goes behind the scenes of manufacturing and shows how their gear is made. The video follows the production, starting from rolls of material and ending with boxed products ready to ship. Seeing as most riders will never actually visit an apparel manufacturing warehouse, this is a pretty cool opportunity to see the inner workings of the gear you rock every time you hit the snow.

Have you ever put on your 686 jacket and wondered how the pattern was made or what the original sketch looked like? Or maybe how it was sewn and how all the parts like zippers, snaps and liners came together? We thought it was time to let you know what goes into each garment, so we created “The Process”, a new in-depth video showcasing the creation of our pieces from start to finish. Cutting, sewing, computer drawings and original sketches, packaging, shipping – you get to see all the components for the first time in our almost 20 year history.

Spring Fakeout Powder Day

0

Seems like it happens every year, a week of warm weather and suddenly it’s “spring.” T-shirts and flip-flops start to show up, and people start tinkering with their bikes. And then, with a push of wind, a new storm rolls in and suddenly it’s winter again!

With a foot of fresh snow on March 17th, Steamboat was tossed back into snow season, and what a snow-day it was. We got up early on First Tracks on the 18th to find blue skies with a few inches of fresh on top of immaculately groomed runs, and plenty of knee-deep off-piste stashes. (more…)

A Month of Snow

0

It’s funny, I love snowboarding and I love writing, but somehow putting the two of them together leads to long periods of me staring at the keyboard (and then checking Facebook). The phenomenon seems to get worse as the riding gets better; the deeper the snow, the less I write. It’s a testament then to how good the snow has been that we’re already 7 days into March and I’m only just now sitting down to write about how great February was.

And basically, February was awesome. Some of my favorite clients were in town during some great storms, and there’s nothing as awesome as “going to work” with wonderful people on a 2 foot powder day. Between teaching, coaching, and guiding in Steamboat, and leading exams with AASI, I’ve spent 27 of the last 30 days on snow, and many of those days included fresh powder. It’s just been one of those years where if you’re not working, you’re out playing, and a day off-snow is rare.

If you’ve been out to Steamboat this winter, then you already know how great the snow is. If you haven’t made it yet, what are you waiting for? But don’t listen to me, check out some photos!
